Employer Sanctions Law

The  Arizona Legal Workers Law was effective January 1, 2008.  Employers will need to begin using E-Verify.  The law is intended to prohibit employers from knowingly or intentionally hiring undocumented workers. The penalties for the first offense include business license suspensions including sales tax licenses and the second offense will result in a permanent revocation of the employer’s business licenses. 

Family and Medical Leave Act Expands

On January 28, 2008 the National Defense Authorization Act of 2008 became effective. This law expands the Family and Medical Leave Act by providing leave entitlements for employees who have a family member injured in service or called to active duty.
