Jaburg Wilk Provides Scholarship to College Prep “G33K” Camp for Young Adults with Autism

Jaburg Wilk offered a scholarship to one of the ten participants who attended the G33K College Prep Summer Camp.  The weeklong camp was presented by Southwest Autism Research & Resource Center (SARRC), University of Advancing Technology (UAT) and New Way Academy staff for young adults with autism.  The camp participants had the opportunity of completing the college admissions process, residing in Founder’s Hall dormitory, attending classes, collaborating in teams, using new technology, completing a group project, eating meals at the university café and taking part in student life activities. The participants gained a deeper understanding of all the skills needed for a successful college experience: admissions, academics, extra-curricular activities, life skills and social activities with other college students.  After the camp, participants were offered an online class to practice their college skills. Participants who complete this course will then receive college credit.

Deon Tinson, the scholarship recipient from SARRC’s Jaburg Wilk Scholarship Fund stated “My favorite part of camp was gaming with friends and learning about video game design.”   Gary Jaburg, managing partner of Jaburg Wilk and SARRC Vice Chairman, said “College can be stressful and intimidating for any student.  Young adults with autism face even more challenges.  This camp is a great opportunity for those students to build and practice college skills and learn that college is within their reach.”
